Freedom to move: the foundation of confidence and capability

True confidence is something that comes from within; it grows inside the child and becomes part of who they are. Movement, especially purposeful movement, is the foundation of confidence and capability. Why? And what implications does that hold for (a) how we relate to our children and (b) the kind of physical spaces we create for them to live and grow in?
